Yellowstone Wild, LLC is a local family business based in Gardiner Montana, at the north entrance to Yellowstone National Park, offering year-round guided tours with local wildlife biologist, tracker, and educational guide, Emil McCain, M.S. Our tours begin as the first light peeks over the snow-capped Absaroka Mountains and drifts slowly across the Lamar Valley, illuminating century-old cottonwoods and warming one thousand American Bison grazing on the lush valley floor. Wolves howl from high on Druid Peak, and a mother grizzly bear leads her cubs across sage-covered hills in the unforgettable beauty of a Yellowstone dawn. So, come with us and allow that majestic wolf howl, the iconic call of North American wilderness, welcome you to an unforgettable adventure with us in Yellowstone!
Specializing in watching wolves and bears, Yellowstone Wild, LLC builds each wildlife watching trip around your specific interests. Your biologist guide will enhance your viewing and photographic opportunities, whether you want to photograph foraging grizzly bears, witness social behavior of Yellowstone wolf packs, or go on a scavenger hunt to ID the numerous wild animal species seen on our family tours. Something absolutely amazing is happening in Yellowstone every day, and we will make your visit with us a lasting impression for your entire group.
Want to get off the beaten path and experience Yellowstone’s backcountry secrets, without the cars and crowds? Come with us on a walk through wonderland! Let’s get out and breathe that mountain air as we search for wildlife, explore waterfalls, mountain-top views, and even hidden geyser basins. Hiking with an experienced naturalist guide is key to safely and comfortably enjoying all that Yellowstone has to offer. Our hikes, structured specifically for your desired level of difficulty, are the best way to truly experience the wild spirit of Yellowstone.
There is nothing better for the soul than a good hike in America's most celebrated wilderness, followed by an evening around the campfire and a good night's sleep alongside a mountain stream. Multi-day treks with Yellowstone Wild traverse spectacular wild terrain on a safe and educational journey, often following a meandering stream to its sources, crossing over a high mountain pass, then descending through hidden alpine basins to discover the wildflower-filled meadow where our campsite sits just above a bend in the river.
What We Offer
Our family-owned and operated business is based in Gardiner, Montana at the north entrance to Yellowstone National Park. We provide each guest with the finest viewing optics available, including binoculars and Swarovski spotting scopes. We serve an assortment of outstanding hot beverages and breakfast snacks as we watch the sunrise and scout for wildlife. Later, at mid-morning, we prepare our signature Yellowstone Wild Brunch, a larger spread of healthy and hearty foods and drinks, served picnic-style overlooking some of Yellowstone’s most stunning landscapes. Throughout the day, we may have the privilege of visiting with park biologists and local wildlife experts to hear about their phenomenal work and personal stories as we gain insights into current wildlife activities and the conservation issues different wildlife species face. During your tour, we will photograph and film various aspects of our day together, including the wildlife and scenery we see, and can prepare for you a photo/video package of your day to take home with you.
Breakfast and Brunch
We pride ourselves in a little indulgence while visiting Yellowstone. We provide gourmet coffee, tea hot chocolate and chai as well as a large assortment of hearty breakfast foods. Most of our food is organic and we can prepare vegan and gluten free options if specified ahead of time. Both our sunrise coffee break and our Yellowstone Wild Brunch will be served out in the park in locations where we can enjoy grand vistas and potentially also view wildlife activity. It is not uncommon to be interrupted as a guest sets down their coffee and grabs his or her camera when a bald eagle perches overhead or a moose wonders by. Breakfast with bison, coyotes with your coffee? That’s the way we like it! We especially recommend you to have your camera ready for our Sunrise Coffee stop to capture the wisp of crimson clouds as the first rays peak over the distant Beathtooth Mountains and splash the snow-capped Antler and Quadrant Peaks of the Gallatin Range with a rosy/pink alpenglow.
We provide the exclusive and unmatched custom photo/video package of your day in Yellowstone with us. This is an extra, optional visual record of what you saw on tour that you can purchase at the end of our day in the park together. Your guide will discretely record the highlights of your adventure, including the stunning scenery, your group in memorable moments and settings, and of course quality images of the wildlife you observe. At the end of your tour, we provide you with the option of having us prepare, on the spot, a USB stick with your Yellowstone Wild experience.
Let’s Start Planning
Please let us know where you will be staying during your visit to Yellowstone. Since we are based out of Gardiner, we are meeting clients who stay in and around Gardiner in the parking lot in front of the Chamber of Commerce. If you are staying inside the park, we can arrange to meet at one of several strategic locations within the park. In case you do not have accommodations already arranged, we may be able to arrange a special stay overlooking the Yellowstone River on the edge of Gardiner at the north entrance to Yellowstone National Park. If you are not staying in Gardiner, we need to arrange an appropriate meeting location and time to facilitate the best wildlife viewing opportunities.
Please let us know what your main interests are and what about Yellowstone captures your attention and curiosity. We would like to know just a little bit about you so that we can better plan and craft your tour specifically for you and your family. Additionally, if anyone in your family has any food allergies or medical conditions that we should know about, please give us ample time to prepare for those circumstances.
"My husband and I spent the most amazing 4 days of our lives with Emil in the backcountry of Yellowstone National Park during our honeymoon trip in July 2016. We are both active nature lovers from Australia and have traveled the world a lot, but backpacking and tenting in bear country was a first for us. We felt completely safe, and guided by a genuine wildlife warrior. It wasn't just about ticking the boxes and spotting animals (although we were so impressed with seeing moose, deer, grizzly bears, owls and so much more!); we felt like Emil showed us the heart of Yellowstone and how much it has to offer. As you can imagine, prior to the trip we were slightly hesitant about spending our honeymoon with a stranger in the wild.... however it turned out to be the best decision we ever made. Emil is not only brilliant at what he does, we
Min & Ben
felt like we were on an adventure with a friend we've known for many years. He is safe, respectful, lots of fun and has so much wildlife knowledge to offer. I recommend that everyone sees Yellowstone this way; get out of the crowds, sleep under the stars, walk where the animals walk, and have Emil as your guide through this adventure. You won't regret it. We are desperately trying to get back to catch up and see Yellowstone when there is snow!"
